The U12 Competitive Program is for athletes who are developmentally ready for additional focused time on snow. Training is 2 or 3 days a week, excluding race days.

These athletes have already shown a keen inclination towards racing and have demonstrated very strong skiing skills. The program aims to elevate each individual’s technical skill level through increased volume of skiing, diversity on and off snow experiences including age and stage appropriate physical and mental training and the introduction to a structured competition. The technical model of this program is firmly based on Alpine Canada AIM2WIN document with participation in limited number of competitions (5 days) on the schedule for this age group.

Training will predominantly occur Friday, Saturday and Sunday from opening to late March including Christmas holidays and spring break. Racers in the competitive stream start to compete in the more challenging Kootenay Zone races rather than the local entry level races, though they may do some of each as they transition and adapt to their ability. There are three U12 Zone races held annually throughout the Kootenay Zone. U12 Zone races are two day events. Extended training opportunities includes preseason training and off season dryland.

Eligibility for the U12 competitive program is carefully considered by our coaching staff. Therefore, entry to the U12 competitive program must be by coach referral. Please speak directly with Head Coach Phil Patterson regarding your athlete’s eligibility., For this program, please complete the U12 Registration Form.

Helmets that conform to FIS standards are mandatory for entry into U12 Zone races. U12 Competitive racers not entering a U12 Zone race must have a hard ear cover helmet.
