U12 Competitive Program

The U12 Competitive Program is designed for athletes who are developmentally ready for additional focused time on snow and are looking to continue building their technical skills, confidence, and race experience.

Athletes in this program have demonstrated strong skiing ability, a passion for racing, and the readiness to train in a more structured competitive environment.

Program Overview

The U12 Competitive Program focuses on developing well-rounded athletes through:

  • Increased volume of skiing and skill development
  • Technical progression based on Alpine Canada’s AIM2WIN athlete development model
  • Age-appropriate physical and mental training
  • A variety of on-snow and off-snow development experiences
  • Introduction to structured competition

The program includes a limited number of competitions throughout the season, with approximately six to seven competition days scheduled for this age group. In addition, there are two special event days.

Training Options

Families can choose between two competitive training options:

2-Day Competitive Program

A focused training option designed for athletes looking to continue developing their skills while gaining experience in a structured competitive environment.

3-Day Competitive Program

An increased training option for athletes ready for additional time on snow, greater skill development opportunities, and further preparation for competition.

Training Schedule

Training takes place primarily Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from opening day through late March, including Christmas holidays and spring break.

Training days are based on the selected 2-day or 3-day program option and exclude race days.

Additional off-snow development opportunities may be included throughout the season.

Racing & Competition

U12 Competitive athletes begin transitioning from local entry-level races into the more challenging Kootenay Zone race series.

Athletes may participate in a combination of local and zone races as they continue to develop and adapt to their ability level.

The U12 competition schedule includes:

  • Three U12 Zone races annually throughout the Kootenay Zone
  • Approximately six to seven competition days throughout the season
  • Two special event days

Program Eligibility

The U12 Competitive Program is open to athletes who are interested in developing their skiing skills and taking on the additional training and competition opportunities offered by the program.

The program is designed for athletes who are ready to commit to regular training and continue developing their skiing skills in a more competitive environment. Our coaching staff will support athletes throughout the season based on their individual ability, commitment, and stage of development.
